Two quick questions:
  1) (more for the grassp list, but since these messages get there
anyway ) - where in the source is the code that creates the underlying
topology for GRASS?
  2) Anyone know of any papers/texts/references to conflation (also
known as polygon overlay, vertical integration)?

is src/mapdev/v.build what you are looking for?
I don't know where to find much documentation
about this aspect of grass.
