I don't whether I'm alone or not, but I'm still trying to get the
v16 version : Since the server does not recognise the ftp "REGET"
command, it's *very* frustating tg get only 43mb and no other
possibility to get the last Mb than to reload the entire archive
(Yes, my connexion is slow and the french reaserch network is
oversaturated... I know, I know).
=> A suggestion for Markus : Is there a possibility to split the
archive in smaller files ? I admit it will be less user-friendly
for loading through a web browser, but with ftp you have just to
use mget instead of get... (I use often "split -b 1420k" to have a
size compatable with 1.44Mb floppies)
Hi,
what do you - the GRASS community - think of establishing some
mirror servers? I could offer all the stuff (including the pages).
Mirrors we need at least in
- northern america
- asia
- europe
Required is a web space of 150 MB or more.
Comments are welcome....

I can offer a space for a north american mirror, if one is desired,
although I cannot guarantee it for more than about six months, after which
something may happen to the machine.
I've never mirrored anything, but I don't imagine an automatic setup would
be hard.
I am very much in support of mirroring, for the same sorts of reasons
cited below.

Hi,
The suggestion about establishing a mirror site is very welcome.
It would be possible for us to host a mirror site here in Japan
to cater to the Asian users of GRASS. I have never tried hosting
a mirror site so if you could suggest how to go about it, I am
willing to do the needful.Finding 150MB space on our server would
not be a problem.
Awaiting further information
Thanks
Kind regards.

We can create a mirror site here in Thailand, but like some of the others who
have offered, I have never set up a mirror site before and would appreciate any
pointers in doing so.

I used (for finaly retrieving grass correctly) "wget", which is
a web and ftp site automated copy tool (try until all is copied,
take care of dates, and have a "-mirror" option). I tend to
recommand it... (a comprehensive documentation is included)
For the rest of the job, it's like any ftp server...
