The AVIRIS I played with was in BIL.
The only difference from LANDSAT TM
is AVIRIS is nominally 16 bits.
You have to use short int
instead of char.

You should be able to get a sample data set
from Dr. David Landgrebe or Mr. Larry Biehl.
