binary distribution of GRASS on Linux

Hello GRASSworld, hello Linuxer,

  - as I remember, GRASS follows the GNU-Licence?
  - am I allowed to put a binary distribution on our local ftp-server?

  If I will be allowed to redistribute the GRASS binaries on Linux,
  I will put them on ftp.uni-erlangen.de next week.

  They will be compiled with:

    gcc2.4.3
    libc4.0
    Kernel 99PL10

    so if you want them, upgrade your Linux now!

  Space requirements:

    binaries ~ 60Mb
    sample databases ~ 50Mb

That w'd be a good service for Saxonian GRASS-hoppers too and we c'd spent
more time on applications... instead to invent the compilation wheel once more.

(ps to Andreas HOLZ @ Uni-Erlangen: ich sehe keine Probleme mit einer solchen
FTP Variante... bin zumal mit den Kollegen an der TUBAF gerade im Gespraech,
auf die hier laufende LINUX-Variante das G41 aufzusetzen, das koennten wir
sicherlich so schneller vorwaertsbringen...).
