Hi all,
I ftp'ed an uncompressed 1:250,000 dem from USGS (Scranton East), but when
I use the command m.dem.examine, I get the following output:
file #1
SCRANTON - E PA,NY,N
min elevation: 0.000000 max elevation: 1167.000000
ns_res: 0.000000 ew_res: 0.00000
# of columns in file = 0
file north UTM = 151200.00000
file south UTM = 147600.00000
file east UTM = 0.000000
file west UTM = -270000.00000
(outside the current geographic region)
tape min elevation:0 tape max elevation:1167
Then, when I try to use m.dem.extract, it ends up giving me a map with no
data. The problems I see are that it is not recognizing the resolution or
number of columns. It is also telling me that the east UTM is 0 and the
west UTM is a negative number. I checked the binary file and it does say
-270000 for the western UTM coordinate. Also, when I checked the binary it
seemed like some of the columns may not have been aligned and/or split
properly. My questions are: 1) What is going on? 2) How do I correct it?
3) Could all this have been caused by a glitch in the downloading?
Thanks.
