digitizing problems

I've been using GRASS with this digitizer for several years and have never seen
this error message before.

I've checked all the connections and they seem to be ok.
I'm using GRASS4.0 on an IBM RS6000 running AIX 3.23.

Any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Check permissions under /usr/gis/locks and under
/usr/gis/locks/<your_machine_name>. They should be globally read and
writable.
