digitizing

. | We are wanting to have the capability to digitize from
. | charts using grass. We currently have no digitizer.
Could anyone familiar with both digitizers and grass let us know what
options are available. Pricing and ease of use information (plus the
availability of a grass driver for the digitizer) are appreciated.

We use Altek for digitizing (sorry, can't seem to find the
model-number). Both the A0 and A2 tablets work fine with GRASS, although
I'm not very keen on using v.digit for this. A few months ago I got a
script from Malcolm that helps you install various digitizers without
having to mess with the dipswitches. The reason we bought the Alteks was
the price: in Holland they cost 60-70% of the price of a Calcomp.

While I'm here, I have a question about r.cost. Does anyone have any
experience with the program running for an infinite amount of time, while
the percent-count increases to far above 100%? If so, have you got any
idea what could be wrong? I ran r.cost -v on a region of 177 rows by 223
columns with a slope-map as input map and a map of 69 site locations as
output map, but it can't finish the job. It worked fine however on a
smaller region. Any suggestions appreciated!
