[GeoNetwork-devel] Any active standalone metadata editor projects?

Hello,

I am interested in getting involved in any active efforts to create a
standalone metadata creation tool that is closely aligned to GeoNetwork.
Here in New Zealand and Australia we have had available to us a tool called
ANZMet Lite that was a lightweight metadata creation tool that tied to
selected GeoNetwork catalogs. But with the advent of ISO 19115-1&-3 this
tool is facing retirement. It did have some drawbacks anyway so I am looking
forward to the creation of something better. One drawback was a lack of
flexibility to change the elements that were captured to better suit an
organisations business needs. Also it was not open source, so this limited
the ability to improve and customise the tool. I understand that Jose Garcia
is working on one such tool for Tufts University. Is anyone else aware of
similar efforts that I may contribute to or at least test?

Cheers,
Byron

Hi Byron

We’re working on this for a project funded by Tufts University and we expect to make a pull request soon for this.

Regards,
Jose García

Hi Byron,
I’m Max, User Experience Designer form GeoCat BV.
As Jose confirmed you, we are busy with an Open Geoportal Metadata Toolkit which is basically the editor part from GeoNetwork 3 detached.
This project is not yet finished and requires some changes un the GN trunk. We expect to make a pull request in the coming weeks.

This OGP Metadata Toolkit is basically, in Tufts words, “a cloud-based geospatial metadata search and authoring environment to facilitate rapid, guided metadata creation.”

Features:

  • Auto-populate Metadata Elements from several geo format files.

  • Import and export multiple metadata formats.

  • Search and import metadata records from OGP Cloud

  • Simplified and guided editor views.

  • and other GN native features like auto-text completion, contextual help/hints, validations, etc.
We don’t have it yet in a public repository that we could share with you.

Is this answering some of your questions?

Best,
Max.

Hi Max,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes this answers many questions that I have. It all sounds very much along the lines of the sort of tool we are looking for. Please let me know when you have more to share and if there is anything I could do to help.
