[GeoNetwork-devel] CFV / Documentation for GeoNetwork 3+

Dear PSC,

Here is a proposal for starting a new documentation for GeoNetwork 3: https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/wiki/Documentation-Improvement . The proposal describes the table of content and how the documentation will be maintained and embedded into the application.

Looking forward to your votes.

Thanks.

Francois

Hi Francois

+1 for me.

Related to the submodule, don’t like them too much, but I guess to have committers only for documentation is the only way.

Jose García

Having a submodule is better, because that means that we can download and
build GeoNetwork without having to download also the docs

+1 for the proposal (although I don't vote)

Hi Francois,

er.. why do we need to add the doc as a submodule?
Can't it be an independent github repo that can be cloned and built on its own
only when needed?

   Cheers,
   Emanuele

An idea of this proposal is also to more closely link the documentation to the application so when you have a feature that sounds interesting in the app, provide a link to the user to the documentation for that feature. That will also probably “force” us to make more docs on each features I think (eg. from the admin panel, virtual CSW configuration, link to a section “Configuring virtual CSW” where the user can understand What’s a virtual CSW ? How to configure it ?..). For this, the doc module needs to be embedded into the app and maintaining a submodule is not that difficult.

Cheers.

Francois

Hi, so if there is no more comment, I’ll start by moving the repository from geosource organisation (https://github.com/geosource-catalogue/doc) to geonetwork and next week in Bolsena we could add the submodule and start working on it.

Cheers.
