Very nice proposal.
Do you think should be interesting to extend the sources table to store the name of logo image? Now I think sources are related to logos using the source uuid as name for the logo image and also is fixed for gif images.

Although not a PSC member I would like to say I support this.
This idea has made me think of another related enhancement I put in for the
BlueNet Geonetwork recently. This was to indicate in the search results
if a record was harvested one with a flag like 'harvested'. While its
good that we have this capability to tell us visuaslly where a record
was sourced from the search results also need to tell if the record
was harvested or not. For example imagine a case where the harvested logo
ended up by mistake being the same as the local logo and thus
a user couldn't tell the difference harvested vs. local in the search results.

The logo configuration take care of all logos available in the
images/harvesting folder.
Then we should keep the source logo identified by the uuid, so you
could safely remove existing logo in harvesting folder without
altering harvester configuration.
PNG works fine for me also.
