Is this planned for 2.8 or post 2.8? I am pretty excited about this proposal I must admit but it will require some substantial changes for me in Geocat. So I need to be clearly aware of when it hits trunk so I can prepare for it. Geocat.ch should hit production in a month or so.

I guess it’s planned for 2.8. The implementation should be finished in 2 - 4 weeks from now, and integrated in trunk if the proposal is accepted.
However it’s currently not very clear what is the planning for 2.8 release. No propopsal for vote to the PSC has been in this list, as far as I remember. There isn’t even a release candidate yet so it will surely not be in 1 month. As soon as the code is integrated you can grab if from SVN, of course.

Hi all,
is Apache Solr considered to replace Lucene?
As far as I can see, GeoNetwork can get some features for free, at least when it comes to index replication and distributed search.
http://lucene.apache.org/solr/features.html
If also the whole metadata XML is stored (not indexed) in the index, then the dependency of a database is weaker.
Note that I'm not aware of the implementation details.
koind regards

Hi Jørn,
moving from vanilla Lucene to Solr is not part of the changes proposed in this thread. However it surely may be interesting to do so in another change proposal. You’re welcome to describe what you think will be the benefits of doing that (maybe in another mail thread) and if we’re convinced and have the funds to do it, I’d say it certainly stands a chance.
Kind regards,
Heikki Doeleman

Heikki, some questions :
* synchronization : how do you send messages between nodes ? JMS ?
* harvester : instead of running the harvesting task always in the
node who created the task (and take care of nodes removed), could it
be easier to make a message queue where all nodes checks for harvester
tasks to do and take it ?
* svn : why not to share the SVN like the DB ?
Thanks.

I also have a release of GeoSource 2.8 in the coming weeks so such
major proposal will probably not be embedded in it. To be discussed
for GeoNetwork 2.8.
