The discussion has been ongoing for a while. Jesse Eichar gave a sound and convincing presentation today about the benefits of moving from SVN to GIT (Thanks Jesse!) and the consensus in Bolsena among the developers is that such move will be very good for the project.
Hence the proposal here is to:
Move the GeoNetwork source code from SVN to GIT (Jesse has offered to do this)
Have all core developers with commit rights on GeoNetwork opensource to sign up to github.com
Update the documentation to reflect the changed source code repository
Note: github.com offers a SVN interface for read access. This ensures that developers using the code that want to keep on using SVN will still be able to do so. GIT write access is only required for developers with commit rights.
Looking forward to your quick responses in voting (we would like to make the move pretty soon)
