Apologies as last week was quite busy and could not manage to provide feedback.
About the continuous build, we had it in an old server and was lost when we migrated to a new one. I setup in the new server the continuous build, but for now was testing it. I plan to update it to send mails to dev mailing list if the build fails during this week. I’ll provide also accounts to the core developers the access to the jenkins server.

Dear Jose,
thanks for the feedback.
Once we have clarified the current situation we can see if/how we can help out.
My goal is twofold, having reliable nightlies also for the stable branches coupled with a robust and healthy continuous build.

Hi Simone
Sorry, my responses were not very clear. Let me summarise:
- About the nightly builds, there’s a working system in http://nightlybuild.geonetwork-opensource.org/ , the only thing I need to verify if the trunk folder contains the builds for develop or 3.0.x branches. I’ll check tomorrow and fix it if required.
I think no need of additional site for this. For sure, I can give you access to the jenkins system that manages this, as any improvement for this is welcome.
- Related to the continuous build: there’s also an existing system managing this, for now was sending mails to the main developers and building the develop branch. But sure, a good change is to send the mail to the developers list.
I need to check as this was running in an old system. Let me verify the status of this server and lets check if it’s fine to keep the actual or can be good to upgrade and in that case, if your system is already working sounds like an option.
I’ll check about this server and provide you the feedback asap.

Jose GarcĂa

Hi Simone
Related to the nightly builds, already exists this one: http://nightlybuild.geonetwork-opensource.org/trunk/
I see the war is created, but no the jar installer, need to check this. Also need to check which branch is used if 3.0.x or develop, with the branch naming change not really sure now what branch is really build.
Are you talking about our build? Please, clarify.
In any case our build is for 3.0.x.
In any case I prefer a more agnostic domain like the actual nightlybuild.geonetwork-opensource.org.
That would be the goal in the long run as well as giving access to all the PSC, but this requires a separate box.
Related to the automatic build sounds fine to me, we have also something setup in jenkins, with notifications to developers (I check as probably Emmanuele was not in the list, sorry), but need to review as not sure which branch is really used.
Generally speaking the build notifications shoud go to the developers list, at least IMHO.
That said, it is not clear to me what your plan is according to the observation above. Can you shed some light on that as well?

Jose GarcĂa

Ciao Maria,
we have set up a job in our jenkins instance which runs on a ubuntu server and build GN3 after each commit.
We have also created a job for nightly builds to make them available for download to everybody ( I will send a separate email on the users ml):
http://build.geo-solutions.it/geonetwork/3.0.x/
My plan would be to configure this box to send email on the devel ML for failures, but for the moment we would be the only ones having access to it (it’s shared with other instances);
in a month or so we will create a separate build box and give control also to other PSC member aside from ETj.
In the future we might create a similar one for Windows as well.
Anyway, how does this sounds? Opinions from the other devs?

Dear All,
not willing to hijajack the thread, but am I right that there is no public
continuos build going on for GN?
If so, what do you think about us setting up one?
We could dedicate a linux VM for the relevant branches etc. etc.
Worth opening a separate thread?
Yes, please

We have a jenkins building the nightly version of GeoNetwork right now.
I quickly scanned the docs and I did not find any mention. Can you
help me out here?
Anyway, nevertheless that job is not running the tests I guess, which
is, let’s say suboptimal
We should do better and we (as in GeoSolutions) are willing to help with this.
So yeah, let me know if/how we can be of help. I am happy to have one
of our guys create a VM that does continuous build and send email on
the ML if something breaks.
I am also happy to use one of our servers to host it and give
(controlled) access to other PSC beyond ETj.
You are right, that part of the nightly build has disappeared.
In GeoCat we already have a jenkins building GeoNetworks for different projects. Maybe we can setup another job for the default GeoNetwork.
Or… we have Travis on Github. Why did Travis not detect this error?
