[GeoNetwork-devel] Geonetwork and CMS

Hi Jeroen and Andrea, Hi all,

I would like to have some information concerning a CMS for Geonetwork.
I heard about a CMS front end with java associated to Geonetwork.
There are two open source portlet solutions that are an alternative for
international SDI applications. One is eXo, the other is Liferay.

Do you think this portlet concept does take off?
Which portlet seems to be the choose one? (Exo? Liferay?...)

Could you give me more information please about this project and about what is
planed?

Thanks,

Regards,

Mathieu

Hi Mathieu,

I don't know any CMS for geonetwork.

We have investigated the possibility to run geonetwork inside a portlet
container like jetspeed/liferay. We made a rough proof of concept porting
the groups admin form and the Ajax harvesting web interface. At the
current state of work, it is difficult to create portlets. This will become
more feasible as soon as we will move geonetwork's services into XML
ones that can be called by an Ajax web interface (and by generic clients
as well).

Cheers,
Andrea

Hi Mathieu,

Those 2 project are using JSR 168 to implement portlet technology then you don’t have to focus on this part since it’s based on this “standard”.
In fact I think the global architecture of those projects is more important in your case. I mean, are you planning to use EJB3 or IOC with Spring Framework, are you planning to be J2EE compliant or JEE5, witch one could propose an SOA perspective?
Since Geonetwork is dealing with XML, JSR170 could of interest for you etc …

Cheers
