[GeoNetwork-devel] geonetwork / CMS

Hello,

I have seen on the road map developments 2006 (http://193.43.36.138/workshops/workshop2006/roadmap2006) that the integration of Geonetwork with an existing CMS is planned.

I participate to an European Oceanography project (http://www.mersea.eu.org/). For that project I am thinking to change our specific catalogue system (http://www.mersea.eu.org/html/information/catalog/products/catalog.html) into Geonetwork. In addition, we need to manage our web site with a CMS (which has not been choosen yet).

I would like to know how your Geonetwork/CMS integration task is advanced and especially, which CMS has been choosen.

Many thanks,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Yes, a CMS has been discussed a couple of times during meetings and the workshop. People at FGDC were looking into this and I think we'll take it up again late September when we'll work more closely with them here in Rome. A couple of open source CMS's were discussed. They were all implemented in Java and used portlets. The idea was to also put a portlet layer on GeoNetwork to allow easy integration, but nothing more concrete has been worked out yet.
So the discussion on what CMS to use and how to ensure it is easy to maintain without creating interdependencies is still fully open. You're welcome to provide your ideas and contributions!
Ciao,
Jeroen
