Credit for the attached patch goes to Terry Rankine.
We ran into some issues with the Geonetwork LDAP integration (It flat out
didn't work with our LDAP).
To cut a long story short the issue was that there were assumptions being
made about the users DN, the attached patch fixes enough of those
assumptions to get it working for our LDAP. It should be 'generic' enough
that others may find it useful.
