[GeoNetwork-devel] GeoNetwork opensource Release Candidate 2 available

Hi All,

I'm copying this to the GeoServer developer list for possible comments and suggestions on the integration.

The last release before the final and stable release is now available for testing. On Friday we will make this into a final and stable release v2.1.0.
Please do test it extensively if you can so we can try to solve any real problems before Friday 21 September. I'll make the release latest 12hrs Italy time (GMT+1).

We can still have some review of the Spanish and Chinese localized strings to be included if provided very quickly.

Three different installers can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/geonetwork :

- A platform independent version
- A windows installer without Java Runtime Environment 1.5
- A Windows installer with JRE 1.5.0_12 embedded

To run the windows installers, a minimum JRE version 1.4 still has to be available on the PC. After installation, GeoNetwork will use the embedded JRE to ensure a compliant JRE is used.

In the release, the GeoServer Map Server has been embedded. The server has been configured to serve to base layers in GeoNetwork's map viewer. You have the option to not install it during setup.

I'll work on making a full resolution layer available of the Blue Marble Next generation in an optimized format for GeoServer. However, that set is close to 800MB, so not very nice as part of this installer  A low res version has been included in the installer however.

Hope you enjoy this release! Thanks a lot to all those that contributed to the development, especially Andrea, Emanuele, Francois and Patrizia.

Ciao,
Jeroen
