For the record, I solved the installer/build.xml issue as follows:
It was failing when used inside Cygwin. It works fine under Windows shell (cmd.exe).
It works fine in Cygwin if I export the USERPROFILE environment variable with the win16 version (c:\Docume~1\justin instead of c:\Documents and Settings\justin). Easy!
Now to get back to trying to install into my Unix server so that GeoServer deploys J

All,
Just in case I am trying to solve a known problem:
I am trying to deploy geonetwork (and geoserver) to an Apache/Tomcat/Mysql/Linux server. I can take the GeoNetwork.war from /web/target and deploy that, but the geoserver.war from geoserver/target fails to deploy.
Thus I get a GeoNetwork install without pretty map bits on the front page.
Is this something anyone is working on? Am I doing something that is not supported? Am I required to use the Unix install functions? At present the installer/build.xml fails for me.
Justin.
