Hello.
I wanted to know if there is any way of using GeoNetwork services (for
accesing remote geo-data, for instance) from within a GIS client; in this
case, MapBuilder (Javascript/Java).

You have such plugin in Cartoweb (not sure it's available in core I
guess).
It's also planned to add such widgets in the MapFish project in order to
use OpenLayers instead of Intermap for the catalogue search interface:

case, MapBuilder (Javascript/Java).
Not sure about MapBuilder, but you could easily query GeoNetwork
catalogue using xml.search, rss.search services and then display
results.
