[GeoNetwork-devel] ISO Adoption Aids on the Web

Hello all,

I work on various geospatial and metadata projects at NOAA's National
Geophysical Data Center in Boulder, CO. I am interested in mechanisms for
facilitating the adoption of ISO Metadata for NOAA and other datasets. As
part of that work I have begun experimenting with a tool called Articulate
Presenter for
creating learning materials as flash presentation on the web. The tool
includes narration on top of powerpoint presentations and creates
Flash. A few early examples are available from
http://nosc.noaa.gov/dmc/swg/presentations.html.

Many of you know much more about this than I so suggestions, corrections or
pointers to other similar attempts would be great!

Thanks and Happy New Year,
Ted Habermann

Dear Ted,
Thanks for those interesting presentations! Cool to watch them play while relaxing from the keyboard, and I learned many new things too! I took the freedom to put the link up on the Links section in the geonetwork-opensource.org Links section. I hope that is OK with you?

I ran into the following:

Presentation 1 - "Standard Metadata in Scientific Data Formats":
- Slide 7 went on just to long for my distracted mind and so I lost my on that slide I realized.
- Slide 8 blocked, I didn't manage to play it. The browser complained about a missing file, although I don't think if that's the actual cause since it is also missing in the other presentations: /dmc/docs/metadata/player/art_plugins.xml was not found
- I wasn't very clear on the content of a SIP compared to an AIP at the end of the presentation

Presentation 2 - "References, People and Metadata":

Slide 4: We use UUID identifiers in the MD_Identifier field. Unfortunately I haven;t seen this widely adopted yet, although it seems to be suggested in the (still draft) Implementation Rules for Metadata of the European INSPIRE Directive.
Slide 4: We extensively use CI_OnlineResource objects as part of the Distribution Information object. I consider that one of the very interesting aspects of ISO19115 too, next to the others you mentioned.
Slide 10: ResponsiblePartys seems funny spelling to me  I can see where it comes from but maybe it makes sense to use Responsible Parties in the title?

Presentation 3 - "":
Slide 8: UUID mentioned in full, but no specifics in slide. A cross reference could also be made between this slide and the slide in presentation 2?
In Slide 10 at the end you give a number of interesting uses but they are not reflected in the slide. It was actually the type of information I was missing at first when you started listing the Quality objects. I stared wondering how these would be used/ useful and then you gave uses. It could be worth splitting those out in a separate slide before going to the conclusion.

Presentation 4 "":
Slide 6 could do with a 1 line example (beyond the imagination of the viewer looking at the balloon  )

The overlap between presentation 3 and 4 could possibly be reduced a bit?

A presentation explaining how the ISO standard is structured would be a great added value too! Seems like a natural evolution of your presentations 3 and 4.

All in all, great interactive presentations!!
Ciao,
Jeroen
