[GeoNetwork-devel] ISO19115 DQ Lineage / ref to source datasets

Dear all,

I would like to make references to datasets used to create another one
in a metadata record. Looking to the Data Quality section of ISO19115,
it looks like we could use the source element in Linage (ie
gmd:LI_Lineage/gmd:processStep/gmd:LI_ProcessStep/gmd:source). Anyone
is using it ? and/or using the uuiref attribute to point to another
metadata record (like we do in srv:operatesOn element for linking
metadata on services and datasets ) ?

Thanks for your inputs.

Cheers.

Francois

Hi Francois,

Have not used this means of referencing datasets myself. I have seen use of the
gmd:parentIdentifier with a uuid to reference parent e.g see
http://imosmest.aodn.org.au/geonetwork but not sure this would
suffice for your use case?

Regards,

Andrew

Hi Francois,

I believe that the XPATH you state below is the correct location "to
make references to datasets used to create the another one". I have
partially used this in a mock-up metadata record but never in a real
metadata record instance.

I hope that this helps.

John

P.S. In the revision of ISO 19115-1 I believe there is an "onlineLink"
element in the "source"

Yes it looks to be a good location. Using GeoNetwork editor, currently
you get the source element descriptors (description, scaleDenominator,
citation, ref system, extent) which you can use. Another option would
be to point to another record instead of having to describe the source
dataset in the DQ section directly. In that case the uuidref attribute
could be used and the user interface could be like the parent metadata
record selection popup.

I will keep you up to date on this, and will probably add support for
this to the editor.

Thanks.
