[GeoNetwork-devel] ISO19115 or ISO19139 Upgrade

Hi All,

I am trying to add an extension to the ISO 19139 to Geonetwork
but I have realized that the current support within Geonetwork is 5 years
old and does not reflect the actual specification. I am about to upgrade it
myself but thought I would see if anyone is or has done this before. If so,
how close are you to a finished product? Will you be releasing it back into
the open source code?

As for the actual upgrade, it seems to me that all I will need
to do is update the XML Schema and alter any XSL files so that they refer to
the new names for elements (it seems the structure is still very similar, if
not the same). Once this is done, I just need to add the extension fields to
the forms to support the extended version. However this all seems too easy.
If it was this easy surely someone would have done it by now. Please tell me
that I am not missing something here.

All the required code is already in the CVS and we are about to make a first alpha release. This includes a migration procedure to move from the old 19115 format to the 19139 based one. It also includes the OGC-CSW 2.0.1 implementation of catalogs based on the ISO application profile.
We have purposely not done intermediate updates to the standard over the last years since this would take a lot of time without mayor benefits and more complex upgrade procedures. (Also, the 19139 standard is close to final for over two years now and we have been waiting for it for a long time preventing us from implementing it at an earlier stage).

Have a close look at the code in the CVS and build the latest version if you want to. That can save you a lot of time of which you may spent some in helping us getting the release well tested

Jeroen
