[GeoNetwork-devel] Losing indexing / db connections failing

I tried the users list and got no response so am hoping someone on the developer side can assist >

Is this a known issue? and/or if you can think of something we can do for troubleshooting (see first email below for details).

My system administrator tells me that the issue is: "Something holds up db connections and never lets it go. So the following connections will be rejected. GN uses default DBCP connection pool of Tomcat, which is very robust. I suspect it could be a bug of GN."

This is on version 2.8. It has been very stable for over a year and now this is starting. When it first started I needed to reboot about every week or two -- now it is failing within a couple of hours.

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Losing indexing

I am using GN 2.8 and recently (last 2 months) it started losing its indexing -- a search will show only a small number of records or it will not search at all and give an error -- such that I have to do a restart after which point everything comes back (is searchable) and works as it should. It seems to be happening more and more frequently. I don't see anything in the logs that give me a clue other than when geoserver is unable to access the index.

I'm not sure what to even check for to troubleshoot. This is a production database and pretty urgent so if anyone has a suggestion please let me know. TIA

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Yes, there is a known bug solved in 2.10 relayed to this. Can you test with latest stable (2.10.x) and see if this is solved?

If after trying with 2.10 it still fails, maybe it is related to the database configuration. Are you using postgres or postgis?

María.

Can you point me to the information about the bug?

I don’t have 2.10 loaded so testing is not a simple thing and before I take that leap would like more documentation.

I am using postgres for the database.

Thanks!

Hi,

Using postgres is a good start.

The bug I am talking about was detected and fixed for the cases where the database is not “close” (networkingly speaking) to the geonetwork instance. It became worse if there was some firewall or router that handles connections in the middle.

The commit is here:

https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/commit/07d489d32a2eedd318227567d33017932144064b

Regards,
María.
