Does anybody know which files refer to the interface itself. I want to include an option in a drop down box on the metadata creation page.

Hi Faizan,
Thanks for your email.
Could you be a little bit more specific on what you are trying to achieve? Do you want to add something to an existing dropdown box or a completely new dropdown box?

Hi Jeroen,

I want to include UK Gemini as a standard. At the moment I have FGDC,
DUBLIN CORE, AND ISO... To me the number of files make the thing quite
complex. How can a new standard be added.

The dropdown I am talking about contains the name of templates on the
metadata creation page. How do I include UK Gemini as an element. Which
file is the referring to the interface of that page containing the code
for the drop down.

Regards

Faizan

Hi Faizan,
Adding a new standard is not a two minutes thing  However, I suggest you browse through the mailing list archives because this has been discussed a number of times and the steps to take have been explained in emails on this list. If after reading through those you still find yourself in trouble, you can post specific questions to the list again.

Hi,

Although I have been trying to follow the steps but it is still very
complex and confusing. Can you let me know that if I want to remove a
field from ISO standard, what needs to be done? Such that when a new
metadata is created, that field is simply removed from the template.

For example if I want to remove CharSetCd,

I have tried removing it from various files but it still shows up as an
element whenever I want to create a new metadata.

Faizan

Hi Faizan, if your new schema is based on ISO19115, you could just create a template using the interface with the fields you want to have in.

For example, default template have the CharSetCd element.

XML View for the template is "</**mdLang**>

Hi Francois,

Thanks for the reply. I already tried that but it wouldn't remove it and it still appeared whenever I create or edit a template. I wanted to know that which files actually refer to the interface?

Have you got any idea.

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-devel] (no subject)

Hi Faizan,

Thanks for your email.

Could you be a little bit more specific on what you are trying to achieve? Do you want to add something to an existing dropdown box or a completely new dropdown box?

Ciao,

Jeroen

Ciao Faizan,
if you define an empty xsl template in iso19115.xsl that matches an element, that element will not be shown at all, even if it is in the metadata.
If you also remove the element from the metadata template (non-xsl) used to create new metadata, it will not be in the metadata at all; note however that you should not remove an element which is mandatory according to the ISO standard; in this case you should create a new schema, which is much more complex.

Hi,

Although I have been trying to follow the steps but it is still very complex and confusing. Can you let me know that if I want to remove a field from ISO standard, what needs to be done? Such that when a new metadata is created, that field is simply removed from the template.

For example if I want to remove CharSetCd,

I have tried removing it from various files but it still shows up as an element whenever I want to create a new metadata.

Hi Faizan,

Adding a new standard is not a two minutes thing  However, I suggest you browse through the mailing list archives because this has been discussed a number of times and the steps to take have been explained in emails on this list. If after reading through those you still find yourself in trouble, you can post specific questions to the list again.

Hope this helps,

Ciao,

Dear Faizan,

I would like to add to that that the standard mandates specific fields to ensure the metadata you create is compliant to the standard.

Fields that can not be removed in the editor are normally the mandatory fields and therefor SHOULD NOT be removed.

Fields like the one you mentioned may have default values or values filled in by the system, so they do not cause additional work while they are or can be used by applications to retrieve information about the metadata or data.

I would therefor suggest NOT to modify the schema, but remove unused fields in the editor and leave those that at first do not seem useful in the template you generate, putting in a default value or use the one provided by the system.

Regards,
Jeroen

Hi Francois,

Thanks for the reply. I already tried that but it wouldn't remove it and it still appeared whenever I create or edit a template. I wanted to know that which files actually refer to the interface?

Have you got any idea.

Faizan

Hi Faizan, if your new schema is based on ISO19115, you could just create a template using the interface with the fields you want to have in.

For example, default template have the CharSetCd element.

XML View for the template is "</mdLang>

<mdChar> <CharSetCd value="utf8"/> </mdChar>

<mdContact>"

You could remove the CharSetCd from the interface and save the updated template that editor will use later ....

XML View for the template is now "</mdLang>

<mdContact>"

HTH.
