There are some issues with the current Z39.50 server functions in
GeoNetwork which make it non-compliant with the Z39.50 protocol and I'd
like to fix them - in particular, the Z39.50 server does not seem to
support requests for plain text (SUTRS) record syntax and this is both
required and expected by Z39.50 clients.
However, I don't want to fix obsolete code. I understand that Simon may
have been working on migrating the Z39.50 library in GeoNetwork to the
newer jzkit2. If we can help with that process, in particular merging
those changes into the v2.4 trunk via our development sandbox, we'd like
to do so.
Even if Simon's developments aren't that far along, we propose to
upgrade Z39.50 in the existing GeoNetwork trunk to jzkit2 and then fix
whatever issues related to the capabilities required by the standard
that we can.
