[GeoNetwork-devel] Release Candidate 0 v2.8.0 now available for testing

!!Note that THIS IS AN UNSTABLE VERSION for testing and that it should not be used in an operational environment!!

Dear all,You can now download and test the first release candidate (v2.8.0RC0) of GeoNetwork opensource version 2.8.0 from SourceForge.net:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/geonetwork/files/GeoNetwork_unstable_development_versions/v2.8.0RC0/

We did not generate a dedicated Windows installer, but this multiplatform installer should also work on Windows systems.

You can find a list of new functionality in v2.8.0 at http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/proposals#a2.7.0release (ignore the 2.7.0 - that is referring to the development version and has all been included in the 2.8.0 release) as well as in the documentation included in the installer.

If you have any fixed or improvements you want to contribute back, the best is to use git to get a local copy of the source code, apply the fix and put out a Pull request so your improvements can be integrated quickly. Otherwise you can also create new Tickets in the http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork issue tracker.

Looking forward to your testing, feedback and contributions. The next Release Candidate (v2.8.0RC1) is planned in about two weeks. A stable version should be ready by late August.

Happy testing,
Jeroen

I looks like the file ""web/src/main/webapp/scripts/ol_settings.js"" from
commit 128328ba8e9042ffca13cca03f7f1d1511009f9d had one of the Env.Lang
changed to a 2 char code but not the other.

Here is what seems to be the fix.

@@ -44,7 +44,7 @@ if (Env.lang) {
     OpenLayers.Lang.setCode(getOpenlayersLangCode());
     var s = document.createElement("script");
     s.type = 'text/javascript';
- s.src = Env.url + "/scripts/ext/locale/ext-lang-"+Env.lang+".js";
+ s.src = Env.url +
"/scripts/ext/locale/ext-lang-"+getOpenlayersLangCode()+".js";
     document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(s);
} else {
     OpenLayers.Lang.setCode(GeoNetwork.defaultLocale);

I'm not very familiar with this particular code so I will leave it up to
someone else to test and apply the patch.

I have created Ticket #986 for the issue.

Could someone add version 2.8RC0 to Trac so that we can target bugs to this
version - it was done for the other 2.4RC and 2.6RC so I think someone
forgot to do it when RC0 was released.

Thanks

Dear Jeroen and other developers,

I have downloaded the RC0 and really like it, is there an option to download the war file of this instance?
I really like home part of the widgets GUI interface. What I would suggest in order to improve discovery support for the final users is
to have “advances search part” on the Results list (currently List) tab instead of Home tab. Then it would come closer to the mainstream web search engines that after typing the main keywords related to the resources I would like to find, the system will provide my a result list with possible categorization afterwards with number of results found within particular category (here I mean general categorization not only categories in GN) in brackets.
I tried to make an example with Prt Scr attached.

Cheers,
Tomas
