We are pleased to open a new proposal about search ui refactoring :

The proposal is not detailed yet, but the branch has been pushed in the main repository:
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/tree/refactor_search
It provides first widgets and tools to perform a search and watch results, but also a fully integrated map viewer.
We focused more on one specific search ui for a customer, but we also provide a default search ui that is clearly under construction. Feel free to contribute to it (by pull request only).
We plan to merge fomatter stuff for metadata viewer soon into this branch.
