First of all hello! I am new to the list and to GeoNetwork. I think the project is great job and I will work with it from now on.
My question: I really like the map search addon as seen on http://www.fao.org/geonetwork/srv/en/main.home. As I read in the mail archive this addon is a small javascript wms called QuickWMS. Has anyone used it here and can give me a quick tour how to integrate it?
Best regards
Kai
Hi Kai,
A bit late, but I was out on holiday.
The QuickWMS addon is a kind of a quick hack and it has not been polished very well so that's one reason why its not part of the open source project. Another reason is that it is using a WMS service and I wouldn't want to configure the open source project to point to 1 specific map server for the layer (this could be a big burden for that particular server if many GeoNetwork installations start pointing to it.
In fact, what I am hoping for in the future is to have an embedded small map that is self contained in the GeoNetwork application. It might even be faster than the QuickWMS solution. another thing is that the QuickWMS map does not work on Safari.
Anyway. to implement the hack, you basically include some "write" lins into the main-page.xml as is shown in the QuickWMS examples. A small Javascript (you can get that out of the FAO front page too) is than used to work with the coordinates. In fact, you could just grab all the code from the FAO site and study how it has been added.
Ciao,
Jeroen
