I have a nasty problem. My target platform is an ibm p780 running SUSE Linux Enterprise 64 Bit and IBM Java (No SUN Java available).
On this platform geonetwork does not start properly due to a spring exception. Other people have this problem too, see
http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/Problems-with-BlueNetMEST-on-Suse-SLES-11-IBM-Java-org-springframework-context-annotation-internalCor-td5033809.html
Changing the spring version number in the top level pom from 2.5.3 to 2.5.6, building a new war file and redeploying fixes this problem. I checked the build on i386, no problem too.
Is it possible to use 2.5.6 for trunk ?
Cheers

We can forget about this. The IBM Java XML implementation has additional problems with XMLCatalogReader causing a NPE.
The solution is to use the java "endorsed" mechanism and substitute the IBM implementation with the jar files from the maven repo.
Now it seems to work.
