Hi,
I am using GeoNetwork 2.8.0 and I am going to translate it to Czech language. I would like to provide these translations to the community. I am currently wondering how to achieve that.
I have stumbled upon Transifex [1], which I think would be the best way for translating (nice interface, easy to use) and providing my work to the community BUT I don’t know how to implement these translations to my GeoNetwork 2.8.0.
I downloaded GeoNetwork from GitHub (using Eclipse and Maven), but I couldn’t find how the languages are imported from Transifex and transformed to those xmls in GeoNetwork “loc” folder (few xmls from Transifex to many xmls in >>tomcat7\webapps\geonetwork\loc\eng\xml ).
I would be most grateful if someone could describe this process of implementing new language to older version of GeoNetwork or at least point me in the right direction.

Translations on Transifex are only for version 3+ of GeoNetwork. For
version 2.8 we still use xml files for translations. Take a look here:

And talking about versions of GeoNetwork... why are you using 2.8
which is not even supported anymore? You can use either 2.10, or much
better, version 3.0.x!

I am using version 2.8.0 because I inherited this work after some guy and don’t want to risk that the system will stop working after the upgrade.
On the other side, it would be better to have newer version rather than older one and the translation would be easier…
Do you know if the settings in 3.0.x differ a lot from the 2.x version? Or is there some easy way to upgrade?
I think I’ll give it a try.
Would you be so kind and outline for me some basics how hard will it be to implement the new language once translated using Transifex?

should upgrade automatically. But that's the theory.

try to run a geoNetwork 3 over that copy. If the upgrade goes right,
you can do it on the original database and the original data
directory.

(85%?) of the translation already done to allow a new language. This
is because some people request access for a new language and then

I can guarantee, that I will translate 100% of user interface (everything that NOT Admin user can see, this I have to do within my contract), but I don’t know if my superior will agree with translation of admin interface (my experience is that English setting is usually better due to help in English on Google…). If not, i will translate it on my own when the work on this project is done.
The question is - Will the translation of the user interface only meet the 85% threshold?
And second question - How long will it take (days/weeks) after the translation is done (85%+) to implement the new language? Or can I do it myself once I finish?

directory.
