Hi,
I have a project where the metadata is stored in ANZLIC Profile of ISO
19115. There has been expressed the desire to include in the metadata the
ability to rank a list of subjects applying to the data by a percentage. For
instance a metadata record may describe data that is pertinent to 60% topic
A, 30% topic B and 10% topic C. Currently, I store these topic data as
keywords and weight them by position in the list - the one listed first is
considered most important and the next less important and so on. But I see
that this could be a more powerful and precise method of doing this.
This percentage weighting is to be for information purposes only and not
designed to enhance searchability, (but it is an intriguing idea to apply
these percentages in the Lucene search engine). Has anyone implemented
anything like this and if so how? I assume it would involve extending the
profile. I would like to hear some thoughts and stories.
Cheers,
Byron Cochrane
