Hi All,
I'm trying to work out to switch on "remote search" in GN 2.2 (or BlueNet MEST 2.2). I have found an HTML input variable called "remote" in the geonetwork/xsl/main-page.xsl file. I believe should be set to "on" however, the value is "{/root/gui/searchDefaults/remote}". I suspect that this is a variable of some type - I have never written AJAX - but I don't know where is it set.
In what file, where and how to I set this variable(?) to "on"?
Thanks.

Hi John,
If you want to turn on the geonetwork Z39.50 server so that other sites
can search your site remotely, you can turn it on in Administration /
System Configuration settings.
When you turn this on, you specify a port. This port on your server must
be accessible by the remote sites (i.e. not firewalled).
Cheers,

Hi Craig,
Thanks for that information but I have already turned on the Z3950 search of my GN instance. What I want to do is change the web page so that I can search other remote repositories using Z3950. I have edited the repositories.xml.tem file but I haven't been able to get the list of repositories shown in the main web page.
Thanks.

Hi John,
I thought remote searching was on by default. I have a default install
and am able to change repository entries with no problems.
Note that if you have a syntax error in your repositories.xml.tem then I
don't think your changes will be picked up.
Check jetty/log/geonetwork.log or whereever you put log files to see if
geonetwork encountered any errors accessing repository.xml or
repository.xml.tem.
Cheers,

Hi John,
Also refer http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/ticket/74
Any changes to repository.xml.tem won't be picked up if you don't have
the Z39.50 server turned on prior to Simon fixing this ticket.
But it sounds like this shouldn't be a problem for you.

Hi Craig,
Yes, I was directed to this Ticket #74 so I *do* have the local Z3950 switched on. Hence, your statement about "this shouldn't be a problem for you." is correct.
Thanks again for your prompt reply. It looks like you have been finding out similar information to me regarding this problem. ;--)

Hi John,
That variable is coming from the server to the xslt. Seems like you are having problems with your repositories.xml.tem file though - I have been working on some minor changes to alter the way this is written in response to ticket #74 - I'll check out your earlier email that had a link to your repositories.xml.tem file.
Cheers,

Hi Simon,
Thanks for that. I have two repositories.xml.tem files. One for our internal setup which was included in the email that you mention, and one for the external setup. The latter is supposed to connect to the Australian Spatial Data Directory nodes. I'll make this latter repositories.xml.tem file available to you directly in another email.
Thanks for your offer of help.
