[GeoNetwork-users] a couple questions about geonetwork

Hi all,

We're considering incorporating GeoNetwork to use on our GIS applications,
but I can't find the answers to a couple questions on the documentation.
1 - Can it catalog data with no geographic location? I mean, could I use
it in some way to catalog documents info, for example, instead of just
geographic metadata?
2 - What exactly is the geographic location of a catalog entry? What
options for registering those locations does it offer?

I also highly suggest updating the documentation. After going through it
and testing the system, it's hard to find out even what GeoNetwork really
is about at times, and lots of tutorials are not up-to-date. And if I may
give one more suggestion, a list of features added to the front-page and
flyer would be a nice touch - it'd "sell" the system more easily, and also
help newcomers

Thanks in advance for answering.

Yes, you can use Dublin Core for instance that does not require coordinates for a bounding box.

Both FGDC and ISO19115 have specific elements that deal with the spatial extent.

Welcome to the project, if you have documentation to contribute, that is most welcome. Even if not perfect, you can find a lot of background in existing documentation, description of the latest release and in existing workshop materials.
A flyer can already be downloaded from the Community website (http://geonetwork-opensource.org). Updated documentation is in the works. Unfortunately it takes time to write those.

Ciao,
Jeroen
