Hi Caroline,
Unfortunately, I don't have an immediate answer to you question, however ...
I seem to remember that the east and west bounding longitudes were limited to a range of -180 to 360. This allowed one to set a bounding box over the international date line. EG. 170 West to 190 East. However, the current ISO 19115 standard shows the range for the east and west bounding longitudes to be -180 to 180.
This would indicate that a search over the international date line would have the west bounding longitude to be greater than the east bounding longitude. EG. 170 West and -170 East would be a 20 degree bounding box over the international date line.
If GeoNetwork doesn't allow this type of search, as you indicated, then it is limiting the searching requirements of living in a geoidal world. Are the GN developers 'flat earthers'? ;--) (Please note the joke developers.)
In this case the standard allows searches over the international date line but the implementing software doesn't.
May I suggest that the GN developers apply this change so before the release of 2.4? It may assist in searches over the Pacific Ocean.
Thanks.
John

Subject: [GeoNetwork-users] A query about metadata and the Date Line
Hi
I am interested in entering metadata into my geonetwork node where the
bounding extents of the data crosses the 180° meridian
I have successfully created the metadata which has extents of
W: 175 and
E-175
However when I then go to do a spatial search it won't allow
me to use those
coordinates - says West must be less than East, which is fair enough.
However if I do a spatial search of W: -180 E: -175 it
doesn't find the
metadata record - it will only spatially find the record if I
enter W: -180
E: 180
The only solution I can come up with is to add two extents to
the metadata
split at the meridian, is this the best solution or is there any other
advice anyone can give me regarding this issue.
Many thanks for your help
