[GeoNetwork-users] backup

Hi,
I have a GeoNetwork 2.6.3 and another one 2.4 running on two different
servers.
they are installed as webapp of tomcat7 and tomcat6 respectively
I have also a lot of downloadable files uploaded by the metadata
editors.

At the moment I'm doing a regular backup of the webapp/geonework folder
using a cron script which create a tar.gz file.

my problems are:

in case of geonetwork failure could I take the tar.gz file and move it
under a webapp folder of another tomcat and extract it? Will this work?

is this a correct way to backup the geonetwork application?

is there a simple way to backup regularly only the xml metadata? are
they stored in a well defined folder?

many many thanks

ivan
