[GeoNetwork-users] Can the GeoNetwork search interface allow interaction between pick lists? [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi All,

I have a situation where there are external Z3950 servers with old forms of
metadata (ANZLIC V2) and some with new forms of metadata (ISO 19139). The
old metadata uses a pick list for search words that will be converted into an
ISO 19115 descriptiveKeywords thesaurus and will be in the GML codeList
catalogue XML format. The new zservers will be using the topicCategory which
is available in the gmxCodeLists.xml codeList catalogue XML file.

I want to know if I can mix these types when creating a search. To do this I
would like the answers to the following questions:

1. What does GeoNetwork use for its z3950 relation attribute for
topicCategory? Is it 2002?

2. Does GeoNetwork allow Xforms or JavaScript that will allow me to
automatically select items in one HTML select list (descriptiveKeywords) when
an item is selected in another HTML select list (topicCategory) to develop
the zquery?

The result that I am looking for is if I select "farming" from the
topicCategory HTML select list then the "AGRICULTURE" "FISHERIES" and
"FORESTS" will be automatically selected from the descriptiveKeywords HTML
select list. This will then build a zquery of
"OR(agriculture[1,2002],fisheries[1,2002],forests[[1,2002],farming[1,2002])"
so that any answer to the query will give the right results no matter what
search words are used by the zserver.

Any other way of doing this other than Xforms or JavaScript would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any relevant answers or guidelines.

Hi John,

I can only answer to your second question.

For sure, you can use any Javascript code to do that. Adding it to any web page
is also simple. I don't know XForms.

Cheers,
Andrea
