[GeoNetwork-users] contribute > import new records

Greetings — We are having difficulty importing new records via XML in GeoNetwork v3.0.0:

(1) When we try to upload a file, the upload process seems to work, then provides “Import Report” with no additional text, then no record is added.

(2) When we do copy/paste, we get an error import report ("{"error": { "message": "Autodetecting schema failed for metadata record with root element metadata in namespace [Namespace: prefix "" is mapped to URI “”]…”)

We have attempted this for several xml metadata records, so we don’t believe the problem was with the metadata.

Sure appreciate your assistance,

Jim P.

Just hoping to get an update on below, as we have quite a few metadata records to import this wk. If there is something simple I’m missing, please advise.

Regards,

Jim P.

Hi Jim,

Can you be specific about your metadata format. It might be easier to
location your problem if you can paste part of your metadata here. And also,
have you tried "uncheck validate".

Best,
Cody

Any chance that you are using ISO 19115-2?

Jacqueline and Cody, sure appreciate your responses, and I’m red-faced as I didn’t check the std at bottom of xml, which in both trial cases turned out to be FGDC. I then searched and found this FGDC to ISO-19115 import conversion script:

http://dak1n1.com/blog/1-automating-gis-metadata-conversion/

and installed/invoked it, and the import worked!

Question: is there a more recent FGDC to ISO-19115 conversion script for GeoNetwork? The above was distributed in 2011.

Many thanks,

Jim P.

Jim,
I know of a FGDC to ISO 19115-2 transform that is external from GeoNetwork
located at
ftp://ftp.ncddc.noaa.gov/pub/Metadata/Online_ISO_Training/Intro_to_ISO/transforms/
(there are several depending on which FGDC profile is used) and there is an
online conversion tool at https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/docucomp/recordServices

Update: I’m no longer able to duplicate the successful test noted below, using either the FGDC record I previously imported, nor an ISO 19115-2 version converted via

https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/docucomp/recordServices

I’ve restarted Tomcat a few times (this has cleared up certain admin glitches in past), tried other metadata records, etc…no luck.

Is there an error log I could browse in order to more fully diagnose? It was working so well…that one time ;-).

Looks like you issue was about metadata format. Since you didn't describe
your error, it hard to give any advice. Did you change anything afterwards?
The easier way is to look at the dos window (restart GNK) and see what it
says. I personally don't like that black window, but sometimes it helps.
