[GeoNetwork-users] Custom Metadata Profile

HI,

I wonder if anyone has attempted to create a new Metadata profile in
GeoNetwork. Well, you may ask whats the need.

In one of the departments here in Philippines, they are using a metadata
standard of their own definition with 140 elements. Within the metadata,
they have feature/attribute codes defined by another standard.

Well, now can we create our own Metadata profile and called it ABCD.

While doing this what templates that we need to change ? DB modification
(prefer to have one on PostGIS), Where to create the XML profile etc... well
you can call me bit (totally !!) confused.

Can someone please just give some advice and guidance on this? If possible
point me to the right resources if available.

God Bless

Richard

Hi,

perhaps you want to look at this:

Hope it make some points more clearer.

If the Philippine example is a Profile of ISO 19115, then the management is simple, although it sounds like it is not a Profile but a local 'standard' or schema in its own right. (Profile tends to be understood in the standards community as a subset or extension of an adopted standard).

What I would recommend is that you evaluate and map the elements from the local (XML) format into ISO and then construct an XSLT to transform the data into ISO 19115/19139 for saving and presenting. If you do this, then all the capabilities on ISO metadata are supported for query and presentation, otherwise you will have to write all your own. The other benefit is that you would promote the uptake of the international standard.

You could then add a transformation option in the batch import or Harvest Management options to transform the local metadata when it is committed to GeoNetwork.

Doug.

Thanks Sarah and Doug,

You have pointed me to the right resources. Let me get deep into that
subject to understand more. It will take a while for me to work this and
make it a success.

Thanks
Richard
