[GeoNetwork-users] Data directory

Hello,
I want to put my data directory in another location. Is this possible after the initial use of geonetwork or will this corrupt my existing entries ?
What do i have to doexactly, in the docs it just says to add something to my Catalina_opts. Is that sufficient ?
Thx in advance
Andreas

Hi Andreas, you can do so using an environment variable or as a Catalina opt, read more at https://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/3.8.x/en/maintainer-guide/installing/customizing-data-directory.html
You will have to copy the contents of your existing data directory to the new location, not to loose information uploaded by users.

Hi,

My process for doing this in the past without any problems was:

1) COPY the data directory to the new location (so if there are any
problems you can revert)
2) Edit /etc/default/tomcat8 (or anywhere you can add JAVA_OPTS) and
add the following line:
JAVA_OPTS = "{JAVA_OPTS} -Dgeonetwork.dir=/data/geonetwork"
3) Restart geonetwork and check in the admin console -> settings ->
information for the location that the data directory is referring to.
4) If you're on windows you'll need to check how to refer to the
directory (is it driveletter/folder or something like that?)
5) Also check permissions- if it can't write to the new location it
will default to the original

You can find out a lot of debugging issues from the logs when
geonetwork starts up. Once you're happy everything is working
correctly, remove the original data directory.

Hope that helps

Jo
