Hi,
I have a problem with the download button. It points to localhost:8080 while
my server has another root url. I have the same problem on my localhost as
on our server so I'll give the localhost example.
My localhost tomcat runs on port 8050 now but the download url is still
automatically set to http://localhost:8080. An example of url that the
system uses to try and download is
http://localhost:8080/geonetwork/srv/en/resources.get?id=133&fname=DIREN%20Rhône-Alpes&access=private
Where can I change the root url for my download links to work ?
Best regards,
Tim

Hi Timothee
Did you update in Administration > System configuration the *SERVER* section
with your server name and port instead of default localhost,8080 values?
Hope this solves the issue.

Hi José,
I'm not sure I get your answer.
Is this inside my server configuration, e.g. in tomcat, the server.xml file
Or is it in the operating system you change this ?
In case it's the latter, I'm working on mac.

Hi Timothee
I mean in GeoNetwork, the configuration in Administration > System
configuration > Server is used in several parts of GeoNetwork to compose
urls. By default, it contains localhost, 8080. But if you have a public
server name, you should change these values.

I'm not sure GeoNetwork can always know where it is running eg. what if it is running behind a reverse proxy? You would need to rely on people having a proxy server that can include the http 'Via:' header maybe? Actually I think Via: header support in apache I think is off by default (or at least it was last time I looked).
(On a related note, we wanted the client IP address to be set from the x-forwarded-for header in order to get meaningful search stats on who was using GeoNetwork behind our apache reverse proxy - it works but x-forwarded-for is definitely optional, needs to be config'd on in apache and not in any standard so far as I know so its not going to work for everyone).
As regards using relative URLs, what if the metadata record gets harvested? You might think the download URL in that case should point back to the site which actually has the resource as they don't get harvested with the metadata record.
Not saying you are wrong, just that there might be a few more use cases than the obvious ones of a local catalog with the servlet container directly accessible (ie. not hidden behind a reverse proxy for example), and the info we would need to use to autodetect this stuff (in the form of request headers) may or may not be there - given all that, maybe it might be easier in fact to have the current config option?
Cheers,
Simon
