[GeoNetwork-users] error creating/validating metadata

Hi,
I started working with Geonetwork 2.1.0 this week. Installation (with tomcat
and postgres) seemed to work out fine, but I have some problems with the
graphical search window and editing and creating metadata. Does anyone have
the same difficulties or might this be due to an error during installation?
The jeeves.log for the second and third problem is added at the bottom of
this message.

Regards,
Claudia

I. Graphical window for searching by location: map does not show in home
page

II. As I had difficulties in validating my metadata record created according
to the standard ISO vector template I tried validating the existing sample
metadata after duplication (metadata>>Create, adding to newly created
group).
This worked fine for 'hydrological basins in Europe'(check>>metadata valid)
but not for 'hydrological basins in Africa' (check>>metadata not valid). The
jeeves log reports "Attribute 'id' must appear on element 'gml:TimePeriod'",
however the element timeperiod is exactly the same as for the metadatarecord
'hydrological basins in Europe' where validation works fine.

III.
An errormessage ('the requested operation could not be performed') shows up
when I try to create new metadata according to the dublin-core profile.

Hi Dien,

Could you post your postgres configuration information (without password
information of course!) to the mailing list for my and everyone else's
benefit. I have not managed to figure out how to connect to Postgres yet
and have not seen any documentation on it. I am currently using MySQL
but may switch to Postgres for the final production site.

Thanks!

Best regards,
Jason

Subject: [GeoNetwork-users] error creating/validating metadata

Hi,
I started working with Geonetwork 2.1.0 this week. Installation (with
tomcat
and postgres) seemed to work out fine, but I have some problems with
the
graphical search window and editing and creating metadata. Does anyone
have
the same difficulties or might this be due to an error during
installation?
The jeeves.log for the second and third problem is added at the bottom
of
this message.

Regards,
Claudia

I. Graphical window for searching by location: map does not show in home
page

II. As I had difficulties in validating my metadata record created
according
to the standard ISO vector template I tried validating the existing
sample
metadata after duplication (metadata>>Create, adding to newly created
group).
This worked fine for 'hydrological basins in Europe'(check>>metadata
valid)
but not for 'hydrological basins in Africa' (check>>metadata not valid).
The
jeeves log reports "Attribute 'id' must appear on element
'gml:TimePeriod'",
however the element timeperiod is exactly the same as for the
metadatarecord
'hydrological basins in Europe' where validation works fine.

III.
An errormessage ('the requested operation could not be performed') shows
up
when I try to create new metadata according to the dublin-core profile.

Hi Jason,

this is how I did the POSTGRES configuration

I. Make new empty database in POSTGRES

II. GAST Configuration>>DBMS:
          DBMS: PostgrSQL
          server: localhost
          port: 5432
          database: geonetwork
username/paswoord of your geonetwork database in postgres

III. GAST Database setup to create the geonetwork db structure in your
database
IV. Set configuration to allow GAST to 'connect' to your db by using the GN
application
GAST>>options>>config (with GN application up and running)
          server: external
                    host: localhost
                    port: 8080
                    servlet: geonetwork
          account: use this account:
username/pasword of your admin account in geonetwork
(which is standard set to admin/admin)
IV.Import sample metadata:
GAST>> database >>sample data

Good luck,
dien

Hi,

I have also the same problem,

I could not validate the data coming from my old geonetwork ( they are
validaded on the old node )
And the problem is the same even with data coming from the sample metadata
set like iso-19139-physiographic or iso-19139-basins-in-africa

Hi Claudia,
Thanks for the report! See below for some directions that may help.

I. Graphical window for searching by location: map does not show in home

Did you use Tomcat version 5.5 or another version? Version 5.5 should work, I had problems with 5.0.
Otherwise you may want to check if the map services used are available. In web/intermap/WEB-INF/mapServers.xml you can among others find the default services used for the AOI map. If you used the embedded GeoServer, you can connect to http://localhost:8080/geoserver and check if the demo shows the base layers correctly. You can use this interface to configure new services too!

Yes, the missing id attribute indeed causes the metadata to be invalid as ISO19115/19139. This has to be fixed. The hydrological basins in Europe is an ISO19115 formatted record that has no problems. Until a fix has been implemented you may add the id attribute with some string as value manually in the xml editor. Not very elegant indeed

III.
An errormessage ('the requested operation could not be performed') shows up
when I try to create new metadata according to the dublin-core profile.

DC has problems that are now hopefully fixed by Simon Pigot. You'll have to wait for a fix release.

Thanks again!
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

Thanks for you reply on the questions.
I do have the right version of tomcat but I had an error in my mapserver
configuration. I get the map now at startup of geonetwork but it does not
seem to load properly and I cannot zoom/search on it.

Hi Jason,

I only received your mail last week. As it is an answer on a mail of more
then a year ago a guess something went wrong. Would you still need the
information? I haven't been working with it anymore but if it is necessary I
could retreive the information.

Hi Dien,

Could you post your postgres configuration information (without password
information of course!) to the mailing list for my and everyone else's
benefit. I have not managed to figure out how to connect to Postgres yet and
have not seen any documentation on it. I am currently using MySQL but may
switch to Postgres for the final production site.

Thanks!

Best regards,
Jason
