[GeoNetwork-users] Explorer operations and footprint drawing

Hi Tim! Hi list!

Tim, thank u for your replay!

I've read somenthing and I have my own idea: with GN I can manage metadata, not data
itself unless it is a standrd WMS link to a Map Server (in this case i can use interactive map
through Intermap, is it true?).

So, if my data is on the file system (or managed by not standard Image Servicecs) I can't
display it with Intermap. I understand what u mean, so I could make a spatial search with
Intermap and find data in GN (through metadata)..but can u give me any link to a sample
application that do this? Until now I have only see applications in which metadata stored in
GN and data displayed in Intermap are separated.

With GN I would like to:

1. do spatial search in the sense described above
2. display image footprints (through coordinates stored as metadata in GN)
3. do explorer operation like: create folder, copy, paste data, ecc..

Is it possible (now or in the next release) to do vector data upload in mySQL spatial or
PostGIS DBMS?

Thank u very much for your help !

Hi Fabio,

I'm no expert in these matters, but you should first start by looking around
on the GN website.
http://geonetwork-opensource.org/documentation/faq/foss-sdi-and-opensdi for
instance gives a nice overview.

GN in itself is a catalog server, which provides you with metadata
basically. Incorporating Intermap (a map viewer) allows GN users to do
geographical searches on the metadata via a map interface.
Once the proper metadata has been found, then users can switch to WMS's like
MapServer, GeoServer etc for WMS interfacing or WCS servers to get
coverages, etc.

So, in short, Intermap lets you select coordinates, which are then passed to
GN for metadata retrieval from the database.

Cheers,

Tim
