[GeoNetwork-users] french community...

Hi all,

For two years, a "french" community gathering national and local
authorities, national geographic survey, public organisations,
associations,... has been managing a project about metadata for french
users : definition of french iso profile, support for INSPIRE metadata
requirements,... and development and support for an opensource metadata
editor tool, named "geosource". The first version was released in 2007
and the second will be released at the end of the year. Both versions
are based (of course) on GeoNetwork. More specifically, version 2 is
developed by two developers of GN (francois-xavier, matthieu) that are
very attentive to guarantee the compatibility with the trunk of GN. Some
new developments will be soon proposed to GN.

So far, with the experience of the Geosource V1, I think it will be very
efficient to tighten the link between the french community (more than
1000 users) and the international GN community. Like the local chapters
of OSGEO, it will be very interesting to create and promote a french
Geonetwork community: specific pages in the GN website, help to
translation of GN application, user mailing-list for french people,
promotion of french speaking GN users and Geosource, etc,... We're ready
to "give life" to this community with yours

In that context, we would already appreciate to use the SVN of GN to
publish the code of Geosource V2. Would it be possible to create a
sandbox to commit our code (Francois-Xavier would be in charge of the
task) ?

Thanks by advance for answers and proposals,

Pierre LAGARDE

Hi Pierre,
Thanks for that email! I'm extremely happy to see you propose this! Good job! We have seen great developments coming out of the geosource developments and I was happy to see some of these come back to the GeoNetwork trunk. Getting the projects even better aligned in the future, working of the same SVN and making sure we have one multi lingual web presence through the GeoNetwork websites and have a French mailing list are very good steps towards that. I'm sure with Francois assisting in that process this will work out nicely!
Looking forward to hear what others think. I suggest that after some discussion time, early next week you make a formal proposal to setup the sandbox, add the French pages and mailing lists and we're all set.
Cheers,
Jeroen
