Hello everybody,
I was wondering if somebody could share some experiences on using GAST
in production.
We deploy geonetwork using tomcat on linux and windows machines. Usually
we do this by installing geonetwork to some place, running GAST and then
copying the web/geonetwork etc. to the webapplication directory of tomcat.
However, if GAST has to be run at a later point, if it is launched it
obviously operates on the directory into which geonetwork was installed
in the first place. In order for the changes to come into effect, you
would have to copy the files again from the installation directory into
the webapps directory, which is not so nice. On linux one could work
with links in the filesystem, but this does not work on windows.
Can GAST be run with a parameter telling it the diretory to operate on?
I'm mainly interested in changing the DB (from McKoi to a DBMS) and
re-initializing it.
Anybody any ideas how to deal with this issue?
thanks
Timo
Hi Timo,
On Linux I'm using X forwarding (installed an X client on windows) to be able to start GAST on the GN host machine.
For changing the db you could also just edit the "web\geonetwork\WEB-INF\config.xml" manually.
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Timo,
You can, after changing the config.xml, also use GAST from the command line to initialize the new DBMS. The manual describes the command line parameters you have to use.
Cheers,
Jeroen
