I need to be able to publish the datasets from geonetwork. In order to make
them directly accessible
(e.g. Google Earth, Interactive Maps) I need to provide a WMS link. Is it
possible to use geonetwork to publish data via WMS? If not.. are there any
other ways to use the files from the GN database and to have them put into a
WMS?
I read that v2.7 will be able to publish data via WMS (at least .shp). Is
there a download link for it?

Check the doc [1].
It supports currently Zipped shapefile, Geotiff, Postgis Table and
external files (on local network or URL, check GeoServer REST API for
details and supported formats [2]).

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately I don't know how to activate
geoserver in the config-gui.xml.
What do I need to change?
At least to activate the geopublisher wizard in the metadata editor uncomment
<!-- Display the geopublisher option for all updloaded files
<editor-geopublisher/>-->
To configure GeoServer nodes to use see geoserver-nodes.xml.
