[GeoNetwork-users] GeoNetwork Implementation

Hi List,

Does anyone know of a site where GeoNetwork is implemented in a
customised manner?

Meaning;
1. Not the out of box interface. (We can see many implementation in
the demo page.)
2. Customised search option
3. Customized reporting option, where the search result is shown in a
different way. Even thought the default implementation is good, I'll
looking at the potential of customisation

Otherwise, the question is;

1. To what extent GeoNetwork is customisable?
2. How to integrate geonetwork with other application say for example
MapServer etc that can serve OGC services (WMS etc)

Is there a full set of feature list that one can have a look at?

Is GeoNetwork API driven?

Thanks,

Ganesh

hi,

I'm working on a project in the Netherlands that uses a very customized
presentation of Geonetwork. For now it's only in Dutch but if you click
around somewhat you'll get the drift of it, I guess.

See http://nationaalgeoregister.nl/

You'll see both the out of the box interface is quite different; so are the
search options (click on 'uitgebreid zoeken') and the search results (to
search click 'zoek').

Hope this helps
kind regards

Heikki,
This looks very nice. I am impressed with the clean and easy to use design. Any chance of sharing what you've done? Also, I couldn't get the zoom-in on the map to work on IE7.

Hi Heikki Doeleman,

Yes, that's exactly what I was looking for. Very clean and nice
interface. The results are not cluttered and shown in a very clean
sheet. The meta data comes out in readable format making the it
meaningful when implemented. Because the standards are good but if not
presented nicely, it will lose its charm and people wont use that.

Advanced search is also quite nice.

Can you share with us how much of work involved in customising the
site to that extent? and how difficult or easy to do that?

Kind regards
Ganesh

HI Bui Hong Son,

Nice site but still the same template as original geonetwork to a large extent.

I'm looking at completely changed interface like that of Heikki. Lets
see if there are more sites like that so we know the power of
GeoNetwork and make the catalog proud of itself.

One more question that I have for the list is, instead of direct
download of data can we make it available as arcXML layers? (for the
ESRI users)

Kind regards

As another example, you might like:

http://lat.lib.virginia.edu:8080/geonetwork/

As for ArcXML, that seems to be the kind task best left to a specialized WFS server like GeoServer. You'd probably have to build a new output format, but that isn't too horribly hard, as long as you are intimately familiar with your format of concern and there is a reasonable mapping to common datastores.

hi,

it is not rocket science, provided that you know XSLT, HTML, CSS and
Javascript.

For how much effort is involved, I'd like to refer you to Jeroen Ticheler,
the owner of GeoCat (http://geocat.net), who is the principal contractor
party in the development of that site (I work for them).

Hi Soroka,

This is another very interesting site. I believe you are using
openlayers along with geoview library in your map view. The back end
server, is it geoserver or arcgis?

This is another kind of customization that I'm very interested, where
the entire catalog can be searched in a single platform

Thanks for sharing this site.

Kind regards
Ganesh
