[GeoNetwork-users] GeoNetwork in Japanese

Hello.

I've tried to create Japanese translation file and add
"\geonetwork\web\geonetwork\loc" and
"D:\geonetwork\web\intermap\loc\ja" into on Windows XP.

Although GeoNetwork can display Japanese menus, not shown
for categories list and country names in "where?" list.
And not adding Japanese in upper right language button.

How to solve these things?

Regards.

Hello Hisaji!

Last year I've posted instructions how to change language settings in
GeoNetwork in this mailing list. Here are these steps again.

I made language change in my GeoNetwork. In fact, it's not difficult.
All you need to create new language is following:
1. Create new record in 'languages' table in your GeoNetwork's database.
2. In all tables which name ends with 'Des' copy all entries marked
'en' (or any other language) to entries with new language code. Then
you will be able to edit these fields using Web-interface.
3. Copy folders (all paths listed from GeoNetwork's folder)
    'web/geonetwork/loc/en',
    'web/intermap/loc/en',
    'web/geonetwork/xml/schemas/dublin-core/loc/en',
    'web/geonetwork/xml/schemas/fgdc-std/loc/en',
    'web/geonetwork/xml/schemas/iso19115/loc/en',
    'web/geonetwork/xml/schemas/iso19139/loc/en'
    to folders with new language code. (You can use any language as
base for translation, not only English.)
    Then you should change copied values with translated strings, of course.
4. In *all* files 'web/geonetwork/loc/<language code>/strings.xml' you
should add tags with new language's code and it's name. These string
will be used by GeoNetwork to indicate current language in language
switcher in interface. It's a little hard to explain, look at my
example, please.
    I've added Russian language in my GeoNetwork, so I add string
        <ru>Русский</ru>
    in all that files, where 'ru' is Russian language code and
'Русский' is Russian language name on Russian.
5. Add new language link in the banner at the main page.
    Open 'web/geonetwork/xsl/banner.xsl' for editing and find this code:
    <xsl:choose>
        <xsl:when test="/root/gui/language='en'">
            <font class="banner-active"><xsl:value-of
select="/root/gui/strings/en"/></font>
        </xsl:when>
        <xsl:otherwise>
            <a class="banner"
href="{/root/gui/service}/en/main.home"><xsl:value-of
select="/root/gui/strings/en"/></a>
        </xsl:otherwise>
    </xsl:choose>
    Duplicate this fragment (separate new from old using '|') and 'en'
to new language code.

That's all!

Please let me know about you progress. Any questions are welcome!

Thank Igor for those detailed instruction. I made an update on the related

What about having Russian translation added to trunk ?

Cheers.

Thanks for publishing this instruction, I think it could be useful for
people "struggling" with this problem.

What about having Russian translation added to trunk ?

It will be terrific! Unfortunately I have not much time to extract
translation from my installation right now, but I'll do it in next two
weeks.

Igor V. Burago

Hi Igor,
If you manage to extract them before Thursday, we might be able to integrate them into the next release. We have a deadline for Friday 12AM UTC to add new code for the next release.
Ciao,
Jeroen

Hello!

I've extracted Russian localization from my GeoNetwork and trying to
put it out there for a two days!

I'm trying to mail my svn patch to geonetwork-users and
geonetwork-devel mailing lists, but mailman denies messages bigger
than 100 К (unfortunately my patch, even compressed, is about 100 K).

Is it possible to include this translation into the upcoming release?
I'll really appreciate that. Please, help me, I really want to help
GeoNetwork to expand it's localization!

Thank you,

Ok. I'm really sorry for this inconvenience.

See http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/ticket/93

Thank you very much for adding a new ticket with my patch!
By the way how can I add another ticket to the tracker if I want to?
Is it necessary to create an account?

Igor V. Burago

Hi Igor,
Just create an account on the OSGeo website (http://osgeo.org) and you can use that to create tickets.
Ciao,
Jeroen
