[GeoNetwork-users] GeoNetwork IRC channel

Dear all,

Me again, sorry for the overload and possible duplications!

I set up an IRC channel so people can connect interactively to discuss GeoNetwork related issues. The channel is available on irc://irc.freenode.net/geonetwork (see http://freenode.net/).

The name of the channel is GeoNetwork

The idea is that quick questions that do not necessary need an email can be quickly discussed on IRC. No log is maintained for these conversations, so if things are better archived email is still preferred.

You need an IRC client to be able to connect. I use Colloquy on the Mac, I think many people use a client that integrates with Firefox (Chatzilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/) and of course you can find many other clients.

Hope this proves useful, ciao,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

When we install multiple instances of geonetwork, we understnad that we
need to configure port so that there's no conflict.
How does one configure the McKoi port :

we've installed two instances
However cannot have both of them running at the same time.

Is this the problem ?

Sean

How does one change SITE ID after installation ?

sean

Hi Sean,
Please check the db.conf file in web/WEB-INF/db
Line 49 defines the JDBC port number that you need to change.
Ciao,
Jeroen

Hi Sean,
Changing the SiteID after installation is not overly complex, although not the easiest thing too
You will need to connect to the database using some database client (for example Druid or command line interface). In the metadata table you need to change the siteid field values for the respective metadata entries.
You also need to update the config.xml and sources.xml files (not sure if there are others, but think these are all).

Hi Jeroen,

Changing the port number in the db.conf file has the following effect:

The (one) instance loads but there's no data on the page (i.e. latest
results, etc)
If we change it back to its original value, everything is back to normal.
I figured this was a cache problem so forced a reindex by clearing the
lucene directory....no difference.

My assumption at this time is that something else needs to be changed ?

You also need to rebuild indexes because th site id is indexed.
So, clean the content of the lucene folder.

I discovered that McKoiDB can not run in multiple instances within the same JVM. So the configuration you try will not work. You may want to consider to use MySQL instead and create the geonetwork databases there. Otherwise you may install multiple JVMs and run each node in its own JVM. Hi Sean,

you can start multiple instances of McKoi. This is what I did when
when I tested the harvesting. You only need one java JVM installed
(1.5) because each instance run in a different address space.

You need to change the db.conf file but also you need to change
the geonetwork's config.xml to specify a different port.

Cheers,
Andrea

Dear Andrea

Appreciate if you could provide a sample of how the config.xml would
change.
I cannot find a reference to port in teh config.xml file.

Hi Sean,

I think that you are trying to run 2 jettys on the same port. Try to edit the
bin/jetty.xml file and choose a port other than 8080.

You also need to change the bin/start-geonetwork and bin/stop-geonetwork
scripts to change the STOP.PORT. If you use the same port when you stop
one geonetwork the other will be stopped too.

Cheers,
Andrea
