[GeoNetwork-users] Geonetwork under Ubuntu - X11 requiered

Hello everybody!

I'm pretty new to using Linux and tried to set up an Ubuntu Server by following the Tutorial from the Community website (http://geonetwork-opensource.org/documentation/how-to/installation-on-ubuntu). I guess it was written for an Ubuntu with GUI, because when it comes to the installation (2.1 RC) there is an error message for missing X11 components is given. I guess to set up a GUI would solve the problem, but wouldn't be the best solution on a server. I'm sure there are a lot of developers using Linux and maybe somebody allready faced that problem?!

Thanks in advance

Best regards

André Stumpf

Hi Andre,
I have setup Geonetwork on a headless system, and can provide details of what I did to get everything working. I am using Ubuntu and Tomcat 5.5, so your system may vary slightly from mine. If there is not an official description of this someplace (Jeroen?) I can provide one to the list.

Best regards,
Jason

Hello Jason

It would be great if you could provide some further information. Till now I mainly used this tutorial:
http://daff.neyeon-digital.de/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/tomcatapachehowto.pdf
and it seems to work for JDK6 & Tomcat6 also.
As I mentioned the main problem seem to be the missing X11 components. Which one will I need and how to get them?
Thxs so far..nice weekend

André
