[GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

Hi,

I´m a newbie to tomcat and Geonetwork.
I tried some days solving this problem but I don´t reach any further.
I read this: http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point 5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path /etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Hope somebody can help me a little bit!
Thanks!

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can help?

Cheers,

Hello Michael,

thank you for your help!
I´m using Windows XP Prof. Tomcat and Geonetwork are on a virtual machine
(Port 80). Do you think I should perhaps re-install GN?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sarah

It would be good if you could post the log files someplace.

On Windows, they are normally located in
c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\logs (or something similar).

There should be a file there called catalina.out. Open this up and see if you see any error messages towards the end of the file. You can post those here and maybe we can help you further.

Best regards,
Jason

I read this:
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point
5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this
point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path
/etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced
difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can
help?

Cheers,
    Michael

I tried re-install, but it didn´t work either. Same problems. Any ideas to my
log-files or so on?
I looked at mapServers.xml and start-stdln.html (and mainPreviewData.html)
and tried to change port but it didn´t work.
For me it looks like that Geoserver is at Jetty while GN and Intermap are at
Tomcat, because there are logs at jetty-folder. Or is this behaviour ok?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Sarah

Pickering, Jason wrote:

It would be good if you could post the log files someplace.

On Windows, they are normally located in
c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\logs (or something
similar).

There should be a file there called catalina.out. Open this up and see if
you see any error messages towards the end of the file. You can post
those here and maybe we can help you further.

Best regards,
Jason

Here are more detail:
Apache Tomcat/6.0.20 1.6.0_16-b01 Windows XP 5.1 x86

In my tomcat manager I could notice that geoserver is not been started.
And
there is an error if I try to start manually: Application at context path
/geoserver could not be started.

Thank you for any help!

Hello Michael,

thank you for your help!
I´m using Windows XP Prof. Tomcat and Geonetwork are on a virtual
machine
(Port 80). Do you think I should perhaps re-install GN?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Subject: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

I read this:
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point
5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this
point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path
/etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced
difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can
help?

Cheers,
    Michael

Hi there.
Now I am a bit confused. Are you running both Jetty as well as Tomcat?
You should probably not run both, or if you do, you will need to change the default port of Tomcat (or Jetty) so that they are not running on both port 8080.

Did you copy over the /geonetwork, /geoserver/ and /intermap files to your Tomcat /webapps directory?

Best regards,
Jason

It would be good if you could post the log files someplace.

On Windows, they are normally located in
c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\logs (or something
similar).

There should be a file there called catalina.out. Open this up and see if
you see any error messages towards the end of the file. You can post
those here and maybe we can help you further.

Best regards,
Jason

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

Here are more detail:
Apache Tomcat/6.0.20 1.6.0_16-b01 Windows XP 5.1 x86

In my tomcat manager I could notice that geoserver is not been started.
And
there is an error if I try to start manually: Application at context path
/geoserver could not be started.

Thank you for any help!

Hello Michael,

thank you for your help!
I´m using Windows XP Prof. Tomcat and Geonetwork are on a virtual
machine
(Port 80). Do you think I should perhaps re-install GN?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Subject: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

I read this:
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point
5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this
point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path
/etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced
difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can
help?

Cheers,
    Michael

I want to run Gn on Tomcat not on Jetty.
But I don´t exactly know which changes I have to made?
I copied these folders to webapps and insert contexts at server.xml.

I found this post http://www.nabble.com/NoSuchFieldError-td19443722.html
because of my log from geoserver:
Exception sending context initialized event to listener
instance of class org.geoserver.GeoserverInitSatrtupListener
java.lang.NoSucheFieldError: KEY_REPLACE_INDEX_COLOR_MODEL.

Am I on the right way? Or is my error an servlet container problem?

Thanks.

Best regards
sarah

Pickering, Jason wrote:

Hi there.
Now I am a bit confused. Are you running both Jetty as well as Tomcat?
You should probably not run both, or if you do, you will need to change
the default port of Tomcat (or Jetty) so that they are not running on both
port 8080.

Did you copy over the /geonetwork, /geoserver/ and /intermap files to your
Tomcat /webapps directory?

Best regards,
Jason

I tried re-install, but it didn´t work either. Same problems. Any ideas to
my
log-files or so on?
I looked at mapServers.xml and start-stdln.html (and mainPreviewData.html)
and tried to change port but it didn´t work.
For me it looks like that Geoserver is at Jetty while GN and Intermap are
at
Tomcat, because there are logs at jetty-folder. Or is this behaviour ok?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

If you are having issues with Geoserver, you should address it to the Geoserver mailing list, but before you do that I will ask a few questions and make a few reccomendations.

1) What did you add server.xml ?

2) What version of Java and Tomcat are you using? I would recommend to upgrade to at least Apache Tomcat 6.0.18 and Java 6. You should be sure that you install the full Java SDK, not the "normal" Java Runtime Edition.

3) I would recommend as well that you upgrade to the latest version of Geoserver, replacing the version of Geoserver that may be distributed with Geonetwork.

3) Is Geonetwork working, in spite of the messages about Geoserver?

Regards,
jason

I want to run Gn on Tomcat not on Jetty.
But I don´t exactly know which changes I have to made?
I copied these folders to webapps and insert contexts at server.xml.

I found this post http://www.nabble.com/NoSuchFieldError-td19443722.html
because of my log from geoserver:
Exception sending context initialized event to listener
instance of class org.geoserver.GeoserverInitSatrtupListener
java.lang.NoSucheFieldError: KEY_REPLACE_INDEX_COLOR_MODEL.

Am I on the right way? Or is my error an servlet container problem?

Thanks.

Best regards

Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah

Check if JAI 1.1.X (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/current.html) is installed in your JDK, I saw in some posts that seems that the problem you have can be caused because having an old version of JAI or not having it installed.

Make sure you install the lastest versions of both Java Advanced Imaging-Image I/O Tools and Java Advanced Imaging API for the JDK.

Regards,
Jose García

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

Regards,
jason

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

I want to run Gn on Tomcat not on Jetty.
But I don´t exactly know which changes I have to made?
I copied these folders to webapps and insert contexts at server.xml.

I found this post http://www.nabble.com/NoSuchFieldError-td19443722.html
because of my log from geoserver:
Exception sending context initialized event to listener
instance of class org.geoserver.GeoserverInitSatrtupListener
java.lang.NoSucheFieldError: KEY_REPLACE_INDEX_COLOR_MODEL.

Am I on the right way? Or is my error an servlet container problem?

Thanks.

Best regards
sarah

Pickering, Jason wrote:

Hi there.
Now I am a bit confused. Are you running both Jetty as well as Tomcat?
You should probably not run both, or if you do, you will need to change
the default port of Tomcat (or Jetty) so that they are not running on both
port 8080.

Did you copy over the /geonetwork, /geoserver/ and /intermap files to your
Tomcat /webapps directory?

Best regards,
Jason

I tried re-install, but it didn´t work either. Same problems. Any ideas to
my
log-files or so on?
I looked at mapServers.xml and start-stdln.html (and mainPreviewData.html)
and tried to change port but it didn´t work.
For me it looks like that Geoserver is at Jetty while GN and Intermap are
at
Tomcat, because there are logs at jetty-folder. Or is this behaviour ok?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Sarah

It would be good if you could post the log files someplace.

On Windows, they are normally located in
c:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\logs (or
something
similar).

There should be a file there called catalina.out. Open this up and see
if
you see any error messages towards the end of the file. You can post
those here and maybe we can help you further.

Best regards,
Jason

I read this:
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point
5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this
point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path
/etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced
difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux
box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can
help?

Cheers,
    Michael

1) What did you add server.xml ?

I add these lines:
<Context path="/geonetwork" docBase="C:/temp/geonetwork/web/geonetwork"
       crossContext="false" reloadable="false"/>

  <Context path="/geoserver" docBase="C:/temp/geonetwork/web/geoserver"
       crossContext="false" reloadable="false"/>

  <Context path="/intermap" docBase="C:/temp/geonetwork/web/intermap"
       crossContext="false" reloadable="false"/>
I had debug="0" but there was a error on that what I didn´t really
understand because I read this different times.

2) What version of Java and Tomcat are you using? I would recommend to
upgrade to at least Apache Tomcat 6.0.18 and Java 6. You should be sure that
you install the full Java SDK, not the "normal" Java Runtime Edition.
I´m using Tomcat 6.0.20 and Java 6 (Apache Tomcat/6.0.20 1.6.0_16-b01
Windows XP 5.1 x86). How could I be sure that I´ve installed the right
SDK? At programs/Java/ there is a folder named jre6.

3) I would recommend as well that you upgrade to the latest version of
Geoserver, replacing the version of Geoserver that may be distributed with
Geonetwork.
I will think about that. thanks.

3) Is Geonetwork working, in spite of the messages about Geoserver?
GN is working so far as I can see. But there are sometimes error with Java
heap space.

Thanks.

Best regards
sarah

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Geoserver with Tomcat: map not shown

I want to run Gn on Tomcat not on Jetty.
But I don´t exactly know which changes I have to made?
I copied these folders to webapps and insert contexts at server.xml.

I found this post http://www.nabble.com/NoSuchFieldError-td19443722.html
because of my log from geoserver:
Exception sending context initialized event to listener
instance of class org.geoserver.GeoserverInitSatrtupListener
java.lang.NoSucheFieldError: KEY_REPLACE_INDEX_COLOR_MODEL.

Am I on the right way? Or is my error an servlet container problem?

Thanks.

I´m using Windows XP Prof. Tomcat and Geonetwork are on a virtual

I read this:
http://trac.osgeo.org/geonetwork/wiki/HowToRunUnderTomcat and
did copy my subdirectories (point 3), changed data_dir (point
5) but don´t
know exactly how to do point 4. I don´t understand this
point. And is point
6 essential? If so where can I find the path
/etc/default/tomcatXXX (I´ve
looked at server.xml but there are no security parameter)?

Which OS are you using? I appended this info, when I experienced
difficulties in installing GeoNetwork on Tomcat running on a Linux
box.

Not sure how you can do that on Windows though. Maybe someone else can
help?

Cheers,
    Michael

Hi josegar,

at my webapps/geoserver/WEB_INF/lib folder there are jai_codec-1.1.3,
jai_core-1.1.3 and jai_imageio-1.1. Furthermore there are some jars at
intermap/WEB_INF/lib folder.
Where/How can I check the jai version furthermore?
And how to check I/O Tools and Advanced Imaging API for the JDK?

Thanks

Best regards
sarah

Hi Sarah

Check if JAI 1.1.X
(http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/current.html) is installed in
your JDK, I saw in some posts that seems that the problem you have can be
caused because having an old version of JAI or not having it installed.

Make sure you install the lastest versions of both Java Advanced
Imaging-Image I/O Tools and Java Advanced Imaging API for the JDK.
